Official Welcome Reception
The official welcome reception will be held at the world-acclaimed Monterey Bay Aquarium on historic Cannery Row. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is at the heart of the nation's largest marine sanctuary and has more than a hundred galleries and exhibits which recreate the Monterey Bay's many habitats, from shallow tide pools to the vast open ocean. There are many unique exhibits including a million-gallon indoor ocean viewed through the largest window on Earth, a towering three-story kelp forest and jewel-box exhibits that reveal the delicate beauty of smaller sea creatures. Exhibits will reveal the more than 350,000 strange and colorful creatures that live in Monterey Bay, from playful sea otters and delicate jellyfish to powerful sharks, elusive octopus and giant ocean sunfish. There are also a variety of hands-on exhibits which give you the opportunity to get into direct contact with many of the local marine inhabitants. The reception will be a strolling dinner with refreshments. Bus transportation for Symposium participants will be available at the entrance to the Conference Center. Cost is included in the registration fee.
