6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. – Cocktail reception showcasing interactive displays by:

  • Cognitive Neuroengineering Demonstration: What if there was a way to restore mobility for people affected by conditions like paralysis or locked-in syndrome? UC Davis researchers are exploring ways to create reliable brain-machine interfaces that would do just that. Biomedical engineering students apply Neuroengineering research to the classic arcade game, Galaga. In their demo, Neurorobotics, UC Davis students will control the position of their spaceship and timing of their shooter to blast space aliens just by thinking about the target they want to hit.
  • Theremin Instrument Demonstration: Created in the 1920s by inventor Léon Theremin, these electronic instruments produce sound without ever being touched. UC Davis electrical and computer engineering students combine the original Theremin technology that used electronic tubes with the new technology of light emitting diodes to create a new, nontraditional Theremin instrument.
  • 3D Cube: Play a 3D game of Tic-Tac-Toe on a cube made with bright and colorful LEDs and capacitive touch sensors. Using the same design principles used for their 3D cube, electrical and computer engineering students are exploring new ways to visualize data for building energy use, monitoring smart lighting systems and for recreational use in homes and businesses.
  • Hyperloop Pod: The Hyperloop Pod Team competes in SpaceX’s annual Hyperloop Pod Competition, where students are tasked with designing and building a half scale pod. The ultimate goal is developing a new form of transportation. Check out the team's most recent pod.
  • Augmented Reality Sandbox: This hands-on sandbox leverages 3D visualization applications to teach earth science concepts. Create topography models by shaping real sand, which is then augmented in real time by an elevation color map, topographic contour lines, and simulated water.

7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. -  Dinner and awards ceremony
